The Smartest Lady in the Room: Barbara Glass

Barbara Glass

Barbara Glass

I’ve started a new section within the Qlixlist blog, one that I like to call “The Smartest Lady/Gent in the Room”, and what better way to start it off then profiling a dear friend of mine Barbara Glass.  I worked with Barbara for about a year as a wardrobe stylist for your weekly fashion segment on NBC5 Chicago’s Fashion Five with Barbara Glass.  I learned alot about the fashion industry and working with a variety of personalities in general from working with Barbara.  The experiences and people in the industry she’s encountered could be a novel within itself.  I remember seeing the abundance of photos with celebrities she knew in her office.  I always thought in her younger years she reminded me of Diane von Furstenberg during the Studio 54 days.

Barbara Glass, though no longer doing Fashion Five with Barbara Glass, is still a respectable fashion contributor within the fashion industry, along with a myriad of other stylish duties such as, motivational speaker, mentor to Chicago’s up-coming designer talent, image consultant, and now she can put prolific blogger to her list.  Check out her new blog, Barbara Glass.

Fashion’s even taking over Penguin books.

Wuthering Heights

I love the classics just a well as any English chap, therefore I was just amazed when I read that Penguin Books had commissioned to illustrate the covers of three favorite classics of mine (Pride and Prejudice, The Scarlett Letter, and Wuthering Heights) —Ruben Toledo.  Now any fashion illustration aficionado knows of the world-renowned Mr. Toledo and his work.  Kudos to Penguin Books for thinking “outside the box” in illustrating their Couture Classics series.

halona scarf - $225

I’m a sucker for scraves, all types and kinds.  However, during my daily searchings online (particularly through Springwise — I’m obsessed with that site.  Just thought I’d put that out there)  I came across a really cool Swiss company Wool and the Gang where they sell all-in-one kits complete with everything that’s needed to make a particular knit design…Sweet!

We’re back…again

Yes, I’ve been on hiatus and not due to just other activities, but the sheer laziness that I have when it comes to posting on this blog. I’ve tried everything from posting several at a time with different scheduled times to publish, to posting only pictures and no words, but to no avail I still end up with a month in between one post to another. So I pledge now to break my bad habit and go forth in regular publishings of Qlixlist. First up, just a quick showing of one of the things, besides laziness, that I’ve been working on during my hiatus. Introducing….Qlix Magazine

Keeping it short.

Yes, it has been awhile (like 2 months) since my last posting.  However, Qlixlist has not been abandoned, but is in the process of becoming a full fledge website component to the Fall 09 debut of Qlix magazine.  Stay tuned…

ShirtsMyWay.com

On the newly launched website, founded by Michael Yang and Peter Crawfurd, ShirtsMyWay.com offers 7 trillion different custom dress shirts with a made to measure option to ensure a great fit. Though the target market is obviously toward the fashionable gentleman, ladies do not think that you can not benefit from this innovative concept.  The “boyfriend shirt” has never been so accessible and electic through your own custom design preferences.   Definitely worth becoming an addition to any stylish lady’s wardrobe.

Fashion’s trickle up theory…

Because it is much more fun browsing the Internet looking at inspiration (fashionable) from all “walks of everything”, as opposed to “living on a prayer”  in the T&A sector of men’s magazines – yes I work for a men’s magazine.  I came across an article in Men.Style.com on Arlo Weiner, the 8 year-old stylistic muse and son of  Matt Weiner, creator of  television phenomenom – Mad Men.  I see him as the industry’s (fashion) trickle up theory in hopes that a many adults will take heed on establishing your own style.

Definitely check out the slideshow of Arlo’s impeccable sense of style. While clicking through the various images,  I am amazed at the fact that this young dandy can articulate his fashion sense and style into words better than top-notch fashion journalists during the various fashion weeks.

His blend of prints is absolute.

Don’t QUOTE me on it…

Qlixlist on occassion will be highlighting quotes that they come across that makes us laugh, cry, or just say wth?   Jean-Paul Gaultier takes the “Don’t QUOTE me on it” debut with this following quote from the Yahoo News article Pink won’t be friends with designers who use fur:

“They piss me off because they’re violent,” Gaultier said. “Frankly I don’t give a damn. I will continue to do fur, I love doing fur.”
